Nature Trail

A good way to see some new sites!

  • Starting in early 2012, the state Department of Natural Resources will begin work on a trail that will link existing trails in Cape Henlopen State Park with a trail at Gordon's Pond (the north end of Rehoboth Beach). When completed, the trail will link with a biking and running trail between Lewes and Rehoboth, DE, called the Junction and Breakwater Trail, that will create a 15 ½ mile loop.
  • The extended trail is expected to provide views of the pond tidal marsh, ocean and dunes. The new loop is expected to provide prime area for birding, walking, running, biking and just enjoying nature. The plan includes about 2,500 feet of boardwalk to keep people on the trail and out of mud. The rest will be paved with a finely crushed gravel that would provide an area solid enough for bike riding as well as walking and running. The tail will provide a year-round route between the two parks.
  • Along the trail you should be able to see rare species of plants and animals including piping plovers, hawks and rare orchids.
